Arthroscopic surgery provides a minimally invasive, low risk procedure, which results in several benefits. Arthroscopic procedures involve tiny incisions where a fiber optic camera is inserted, presenting magnified real-time video on a television screen. This allows the surgeon to operate with greater visibility of the joint and its surrounding tissues. The surgeon also uses small surgical instruments to perform the surgery. Compared to traditional surgical procedures, patients treated arthroscopically will experience a faster recovery time, reduced postoperative scarring, swelling and complications.
Several conditions can be treated with arthroscopic surgery:
- Ligament Tears
- Debris removal
- Removal of loose bone or cartilage
Arthroscopic procedures are generally low-risk, however as with any procedure, there is possibility of a few complications. These include:
- Blood clots
